Turnberry, King Robert the Bruce course

Much work has taken place in the last couple of years at Turnberry, first with the beautiful Ailsa course undergoing a very well received re-vamp and in 2017 it was the turn of it's sister course, the Kintyre. Now known as the King Robert the Bruce, the course is a challenging championship standard links in its own right with some glorious views to reward the golfer.

The King Robert the Bruce course has largely the same footprint as the Kintyre but every hole is either new or significantly modified. Some areas of gorse have been replaced with wetland to create a water hazard impacting several holes.

On the high point known as Bain's Hill, introduced to the course by Donald Steel in a re-modelling in 2001, there are four completely new holes. Bain's Hill continues to give the course some of its most memorable golfing moments. The views are stunning. Golf architect Martin Ebert has reversed the order of play and introduced a spectacular cliff edge green at the 9th hole, with a risky approach shot.

The King Robert the Bruce course offers links undulations, impressive fairways and a beautiful coastal setting. The Ailsa may be most people's reason to visit Turnberry but take time for the King Robert the Bruce too.
